Search coil This loop shaped coil is heart of the system, It generates an alternating electromagnetic field when an electric current is passed through it.

Control Box This unit houses the electronic components that control the systems operation. It analyzes the signal from the search coil and provides audio or visual alerts when metal is detected.

The search coil is attached to a shaft for easy handling. The control box is usually housed in separate unit or integrated into shaft depending on the model.

Most portable metal detectors are powered by batteries.

How it Works

The control box sends electric current through to search coil creating alternating electromagnetic field around.

When electromagnetic field encounters metal object it induces eddy currents within the metal. These eddy currents in turn generate their own opposing electromagnetic field.

The presence of metal disrupts the original electromagnetic field generated by the search coil. This shift in the field is detected by the control box.

The control box analyzes the change in the signal and triggers an audible alert or visual display (like on an LCD screen) to indicate the presence of metal.

Types of Metal Detectors

Very Low Frequency (VLF): Most popular type, good for general-purpose treasure hunting and detecting buried objects.

Pulse Induction (PI): Can operate in mineralized ground where VLF detectors struggle, often used for professional applications.

Beat Frequency Oscillator (BFO) Less common type, can be more sensitive to smaller objects but requires more user skill.

King Survey: The King Survey Long Range Treasure Locator is an advanced Metal Detector System utilizing advanced FORWARD GAUSS technology that is both an audio and visual detector. This metal detector was first used in the field in 1984 and the FORWARD GAUSS technology that it uses has proven to be (by far) the most successful.

This system was originally developed for professional archeologists and treasure hunters and has been used both on land and under water. With the development of faster and more complex processing units and a reduction in the cost of materials, we were able to begin offering this breakthrough technology to the general public at a much more affordable cost. Part of the success of this metal detector system is that it does not look like a standard ‘metal detector’. Instead, it has the appearance of a fine, well manufactured piece of scientific equipment that one might expect to find at an archeological site.

The King survey is ‘custom built’ in a sturdy, hard side, padded case with two locks. The transmitter is case mounted and includes the ‘Standard Six’ elements with selector switch. The system includes an installed, rechargeable gel cell battery with charger, transmitting antenna, receiving rods and receiver with belt clip, headphones and user manual all inserted into the specially fitted case.
