Anyway, these are the devices I use, and this is how I equip my car trunk for underwater searching. The first device I'll use is the Aqua Sound. This particular device is made in Florida for Florida waters and cannot be used in mineral-rich soil; it's designed specifically for Florida sand.
This device only makes two sounds: a soft whistling sound, which means a good target; Or a loud popping sound, which means a bad target, like a bottle cap, nail, or other non-metallic object. It's a fairly heavy device, and as I mentioned, it has several control knobs, so you have to learn how to balance and adjust it while in the water. These are its only drawbacks; it's not very user-friendly, and you have to learn how to adjust its levels.
This is my favorite machine, and it's also heavy because it has a water coil, and that weight keeps it in the water. As for the next machine, how much does it cost now? I think it's around $2,600 or $2,700. These machines are specifically made in Florida for its waters, and you can't use them up north, as I mentioned. There are other drilling machines; they're excellent in Florida's sand and saltwater. I prefer this machine to every machine I've ever used.
What's the deepest target you've found with it?
You can dig up 18- or 20-inch coins. You have to move smoothly and slowly while working, and you'll get a faint signal. When you reach the target, if you're moving too fast and don't hear that signal, you'll pass it. You can dig down and find a good target.
The other machine I use is a heavy stainless steel shovel, made by Riley's Treasure Gold in Fort Lauderdale.
The other machine I prefer, and which I've used for many years, is the Xcalibur 2. Actually, I have an older Xcalibur; this one belongs to my wife. It has the small file. This is also an excellent tool in areas with a lot of litter because the large file will pick up a lot of debris, and this one will work through it. It's a great machine. It has a long shaft, so it extends outwards, and when you're wearing it, the weight of the machine is higher than your shoulder, so when you move it, there's no weight.
Yes, it's a special shaft, and as I said, you can move it. Look at the way I move it—with just one finger! It's amazing! It's very light, yes, because of the balance. Usually, they come with a short shaft, and with that short shaft, all the weight is on your wrist and forearm.
When my wife was using the short shaft, she couldn't work for more than an hour, and her arms would hurt terribly. With this shaft, she can work for 3-4 hours. It's an excellent addition to the Xcalibur machine.
As for my fishing method, I fish with a snorkel mask. So, I use a mask and the snorkel I wear—is it a special snorkel with a tip here? Well, it's called a dry snorkel. So, when you're underwater or in the waves, water doesn't enter it, so you can keep your face down while diving. This allows you to collect the things you see and that your metal detector will pick up. You have a sun-protective shirt, a collection bag, and socks. The collection bag is wrapped around your waist, and you put everything you find in it.
Things stay there until you get out. What I use here is that when I find valuables like rings and other things, I put them in this bag. I also have a spare key because I often lose my car key and can't get in, so I always carry it with me. I also have two different sets of weights. If it's calm, I wear about 20 pounds of weights, and if it's windy, I wear two different sets of weights. This is bad. I'm wearing this belt, which weighs about 30 pounds, and it's holding me in place. This is the weight belt my wife is wearing.
My wife is wearing this belt here, and it weighs only about 10 pounds, so there's plenty to catch. I'm sure Dad will be a champion. With the X-Caliber, you'll dig up some unwanted targets because you don't want to miss anything good just because you don't want to dig it up. The Aqua Sound gives you the advantage of not digging up as much junk. You can use both of them away from water. Yes, you can use them on land. The Aqua Sound has a different coil because the coil you use in water is heavy-duty, and it comes with a separate, lighter coil, so you can use it on sand.
