In the United States have found a 100-year-old steamer

In Michigan, the United States, discovered over a hundred years ago the sunken steamer. He wrecked in Lake Michigan during the storm and is considered the biggest wooden ship of the United States of the time, the remains of which still have not been found. That was reported by the Associated Press.

According to the President of the Wisconsin underwater archaeology Association of Brandon Bejloda (Brendon Baillod) that sank in 1898, steamship “L.R. Doty” turned out to be the largest wooden ship sunk, with whom he had to deal with. Its length is 91 m.

As noted by the Agency, the ship is well preserved because it was in cold water and at great depths. According to Bejloda, most likely underwater archaeologists even unable to locate the body of crew of the steamer. At the time of the accident there were 17 people on board. At the same time, archaeologists are not going to lift the steamer to the surface because the air on a wooden vessel will be much more prone to fracture.

In total, the Agency notes that, at the bottom of Lake Michigan are skeletons of about 500 different ships.
