Nokta Double Score 2 Metal Detector — Review, Setup, Specifications

The Nokta Double Score metal detector is the second model in the multi-frequency Nokta Score lineup, designed for a wide range of searchers. It combines ease of use, ergonomics, and a set of features sufficient for searching both on the beach and in historical areas. Essentially, the Score 2 is the middle link between the Simplex and the Legend.

Design Features

The metal detector is equipped with a waterproof protection of IP68 class. This level allows not only diving with the device up to a depth of 5 meters but also confidently searching in field conditions when there is wind, dust, or rain — the body is fully protected against water and dust.

The light weight of the entire design (1.25 kg) allows for fatigue-free digging from morning to evening. Additionally, the conveniently located LED flashlight illuminates the area directly under the coil in the dark or in low visibility indoor conditions.

The built-in 3250 mAh Li-Po battery has a long service life and can operate continuously for up to 12 hours. For use with the proprietary external waterproof battery, the armrest is equipped with a special mount. Firmware updates for the metal detector are available online via the charging cable.

Control Unit

The unit's screen is a monochrome LCD display. Both the screen and the keypad have blue backlighting with adjustable brightness, which prevents glare in sunny conditions. A short-term backlight mode can also be selected: it activates when a target is detected. but all symbols are intuitively understandable even for a beginner. Everything needed to configure the device and understand the characteristics of a target is displayed on the screen — discrimination, VDI, search depth, mode, battery level.Built-in Bluetooth allows you to connect wireless headphones. It can operate with low-latency aptX. However, there is no standard jack for wired headphones, and an adapter is not included.

Rod

The straight telescopic rod consists of three parts. The upper part is made of flexible plastic and is integrated with the block. The lower and middle sections are made of carbon. Clamps allow the device's length to be precisely adjusted to the user's height, ranging from 63 to 132 cm. The handle fits comfortably in the armrest, which has three adjustable positions.

Handle vibration (has five levels) is convenient for underwater searching and serves as an additional signal of a target in low visibility conditions. The design features good balance.

Search coil

Comes with the Nokta SC30 9×12″ DD (23×30 cm) coil with protection. It provides good depth and wide coverage in one sweep, reducing the number of misses. At the same time, it works well in cluttered areas. However, for jewelry and precise searching in trash-filled areas, the coil is somewhat large.

Additionally, the manufacturer released two coils for the Nokta Score: the semi-sniper SC24 6×9.5″ DD and the large SC35 12.5×13.5″ DD. They are not compatible with other detectors from the manufacturer.

Technical Specifications

The working functionality of the Double Score metal detector is an optimal set of settings necessary for treasure hunting. The device uses the SMF (Simultaneous Multi-Frequency) detection method. Its operation is based on processing signals from multiple frequencies simultaneously (8, 18, 40 kHz). For searching near sources of strong electromagnetic interference, the manufacturer equipped the detector with a universal frequency of 15 kHz.

VDI values range from 1 to 60:1-10 for ferrous metals11-60 for non-ferrous metals.

The identification scale consists of 30 segments. It is possible to accept or reject identifiers.

Pinpointing helps determine the exact location of a target. You can save two user profiles with frequently used settings. The Nokta Double Score does not have audio or threshold tone settings.

Search Modes

The Nokta Double Score metal detector uses three search modes. They are equipped with optimal functionality to cover the most sought-after targets and areas being explored.

The "Park" and "Field" programs allow you to select the operating frequency: multi-frequency or 15 kHz. Saltwater can cause interference and false signals, so in the "Beach" program only the multi-frequency mode is available. This ensures more stable operation of the device on conductive ground.

Park

This mode is suitable for detecting coins of various sizes and jewelry, including on heavily littered soil containing a lot of modern trash. It has 3 tones:low for iron targets with VDI 1-10medium for identifiers 11-41 (gold, aluminum)high from 41 to 60 (copper, large silver).

Search is conducted with the default rejection of bottle caps. The device recognizes them as iron.

Field

The program is adapted for coin hunting and old-style digging in groves, plowed fields, and pastures. Such areas usually contain coke and iron targets. The mode uses only 2 tones with a gap of 12, without the possibility of user adjustment.

Beach

From the name, it is clear that in this mode, the metal detector searches in highly mineralized soils. These include wet and dry beach sand, the seabed, and any saltwater body.

To ensure the best performance, only multi-frequency is applicable here. The metal detector automatically blocks access to single-frequency when switching to Beach mode. In addition to ground balance, the user has the option to adjust ground stability, which will reduce noise.

Main settings and parameters

The Nokta Double Score offers 3 multi-frequency options depending on the search conditions (except for the 'Beach' mode):

Multi-1 (M1) is adapted for highly conductive targets.

Multi-2 (M2) is intended for low-conductive targets.

Multi-3 (M3) is designed for wet soils when the metal detector gives false signals and operates unstably. In this mode, the response to small aluminum, foil, and coke is reduced.

The 15 kHz single frequency can be selected when the Score 2 picks up a lot of EMI.

In automatic noise suppression, the device will select the quietest channel out of 13. Signal adjustment against electromagnetic interference is performed after choosing the frequency, which helps stabilize operation near power lines and other metal detectors.

The soil balance can be set manually or pumped automatically. The soil tracking function allows the device to automatically update it during operation, which is convenient when changing the type of soil on the site.

The sensitivity is adjustable in 10 levels. The higher the value, the deeper the device can detect the target, but the number of false signals increases. In a "clean" area, it can be raised to maximum, while on complex soils it should be reduced for stability. Before reducing it, it's best to recalibrate for interference.

Recovery speed has 3 settings. On trashy areas, it is recommended to use a fast response so that the device better separates targets. The slow setting (1) provides the greatest depth but works worse for closely spaced objects in trashy areas. The medium setting is considered optimal for searching. Iron discrimination is adjustable in 10 levels. The higher the value, the more strictly the device filters out iron signals. The lower the value, the more iron will be detected. However, it is important to remember that you may lose valuable targets along with trash. The volume of weak signals can be set from 0 to 6. It helps to hear deep targets that the device may display as "black". On previously worked (formerly promising) areas, high detection of deep targets is useful—it can help retrieve finds from depth but reduces stability.

By default, the discrimination mask is set to F when iron identifiers are rejected. For better efficiency, it is better not to close the mask and select "all metals." In the case of false triggers on the ground, G can be set. In this case, the first segment of the scale will be disabled. In the user mask, any identifiers can be rejected.

Two user profiles allow for the creation and saving of custom optimized settings. The user will be able to instantly connect to them and start searching using preset personal parameters.

Where it is used and what can be found

The Nokta Double Score metal detector performs well in searching for old items. For example, it can detect small fragments of metal at a depth of up to 16 cm, and large coins at 30 cm. Its waterproof feature allows submersion up to 5 meters. Good discrimination makes it possible to search in cluttered areas. It is not suitable for heavy conductive soils and may work unstably in saltwater.

The Nokta Double Score metal detector will be highly appreciated by those who need reliability, efficiency, and modern technology without unnecessary frills. The combination of these features with an affordable price makes the device particularly attractive for hobbyist treasure hunters.
