Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coin
Investment Canadian “Maple Leaf” coin is surely, alongside the South African Kruger rand, one of the most famous gold coins of the world. Coined since 1979 by the Royal Canadian Mint, Maple Leaf of gold has a purity of 99,99 percent since 1982. As with many other gold coins, Maple Leaf has nominal value and is, therefore, a means of payment, legal in Canada, although we must keep in mind that this rating is actually much lower than the material value of the currency.
The Maple Leaf design
In one of the faces of the Maple Leaf appears a maple leaf, which is also present in the Canadian flag and is at the same time the national symbol of Canada. As in other countries of the Commonwealth, on the reverse of the coin the reigning monarch of the British Crown is represented. The image of the monarch is updated periodically. The song of this gold coin presents notches but no other registration.
The Maple Leaf issue
The Royal Canadian Mint is responsible for the issuance of the Maple Leaf with five different nominal values: 1/20 ounce (nominal value 1 CAD), 1/10 oz (nominal value 5 CAD), quarter (nominal value of CAD 10) ounce and 1 ounce (face value 50 CAD). In the Catalina the Canadian Maple Leaf is the currency of the world’s strongest gold investment and has even moved to the first position in the ranking Krugerrand. In addition to the fractional coins already mentioned, every time different special editions of the Maple Leaf are emitted. Particularly known is a series of five coins of 100 kg of weight every an and a purity of 99,99 percent, which have a face value of 1 million Canadian dollars. In the year 1997 was also issued a special edition of the Maple Leaf with a purity of 99.99%. In addition to the Maple Leaf of gold, there are also Maple Leafs in silver, Platinum and Palladium.
