Mono or Double-D spool

There are two main types of search coils for metal detectors-Mono and Double-D. In the coils of Mono uses two winding circle, one inside the other. This reel is used on most metal detectors designed for coins, jewelry and relics. Mono coil have very good discrimination and allow a very easy and simple to detect different objectives, especially the smaller ones, because the best signal is always in the center of the coil.
Double-D (DD) uses two coils winding in form, resembling the letter D alphabet. They are not as dependent on the influence of Mineralization of soil, in contrast to the concentric, so they typically are used to find gold or in places with highly mineralized soil.

Try to choose a reel in accordance with the location where you want to search. Proper selection of the coil will allow you to look for more pleasant discoveries and save time and effort in the search. Big reel is required when searching in “pure” field, or if you need to reach greater depths. Small coil will help look for smaller objects such as gold nuggets or jewelry and fabulous job on garbage sites.

The advantages of Double-D coils:

-Easier to cope with the highly mineralised soil.
-Greater grip area in the ratio with depth.

Weaknesses of Double-D coils:

-Determine the exact target location is more difficult.
-Heavier than Mono.
-Lower the sensitivity around the perimeter.

Benefits of Mono coils:

-High sensitivity than DD.
-A deeper search compared to DD coils.
-Large Mono coil lighter than DD identical diameters.
-Magnetic field of round section.
-Easier to determine the precise location of the target.
-More productive when you search in the bushes, roots etc., as sensitive on all Perimetre.
-Cope better at littered areas.

Weaknesses Mono coils:

-More prone to interference on highly mineralized soils.
-More sensitive to hot stones.
